I have not posted in a while. I have my reasons. I could be private about them, but I will not be.
There is another dog, this is the first reason.
She is a bright white, active, female Samoyed puppy named Yakone, but do not pronounce it that way. Spoken, her name is Ya - co - na and it means red aurora, which does nothing to describe her at all. Yakone is an Inuit name and she is of an Inuit breed. It sounds nice too.
Nukka is the other name we considered. It has a more apt meaning (Nukka means little sister) since she is now in a household with an older dog. Nukka is also a two syllable name, and it ends with a hard vowel sound. For those reasons Nukka is a better dog name.
We liked Yakone more so the puppy's name is Yakone. Here she is:
Today, Odin was at the end of the leash, not pulling ahead, nor lagging behind. The sun was warm but the weather is still on its way to finding Spring. There has been rain, but no other signs of April. Odin has been with me everyday this week.
It has not been the best week for him.
Yakone stays at home to play with the Bassett Hound we are dog-sitting (that's a story of its own) and Odin stays tied up to my desk. I have moved offices (same building, different room) to be more involved with the creative staff here at Performance Media.
There are too many people in this room. Odin cannot wander around. He is tame, but he will place his head in a seated lap anytime, just to inquire, in his canine way. Oh well, I still have a window. With the window behind me and the bored, tied up dog before me I have been taking a lot of trips outside this week.
There have been overcast skies, and drizzle, and as I said before, it has not been warm here in southern New Jersey. There is a field near my office, maybe I have mentioned it before. Last year it was bare. Occasionally, while resting beneath a tree during lunch, reading, or dozing, I would see a groundhog moving along its edges.
Only a few hours ago I was staring out at it, too warm in my light sweater, and I could sense a change.
It was not difficult.
I was on the phone with my fiancée of two weeks. We are in the first stages of planning the wedding. Maybe we will be married in an old barn. Maybe we will be in Gettysburg when we are. For now, the most important thing is that dandelions are growing in the field. They are weeds, but they are the product of the last month's pouring rain; the color birthed of the grey weeks before. Later corn will grow, or flowers bloom. The lion-headed weeds are the beginning.
It has been a good day for walking.
P.S. Go Flyers.

Congrats on the engagement!! :) And the new puppy---oh my goodness---she is adorable! Yay for puppies.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed today so much with the warmer weather-once the heat burned off the haze that is. Unfortunately I have horrible allergies and the cherry blossoms planted ALL OVER my development have covered everything in yellow pollen. I toughed it out though and enjoyed sitting on the deck. Glad to see you got Odin out for a nice walk and enjoyed it as well. :)
Risking triteness...Congratulations on your engagement! Wedding planning can be wonderfully exciting, as I've witnessed second-hand. And Nakone is a beautiful name.
